Bali targets 100’000 UK tourists in 2011

08 November 2010, London - More than 70 tourism professional from Bali are attending the World Travel Mart (WTM) in London this year to ensure that the target for 2011 tourist arrival from United Kingdom (UK) is achieved.

“There are 70 million outbound tourists from UK annually and we are targeting one hundred thousand arrivals into Bali in 2011, a majority staying in Badung Regency namely Nusa Dua and Kuta,” said Badung Regent Anak Agung Gde Agung in London today.

Out of the 92’859 UK tourist arrival direct into Bali in 2009, more than half chose Badung Regency for accommodation. Badung Regency covers major beach favourites such as Nusa Dua, Jimbaran, Kuta, Legian and Seminyak.
In 2009, Indonesia tourism earned £123 million from 169’271 UK tourist arrival. 54.86% of that was to Bali as the most popular destination, secondly was Jakarta at 18.33%. The rest was divided between Batam, Medan, Surabaya and other destinations across Indonesia.

“We, from the industry, appreciate the willingness of the officials from Badung Regency administration to come out all the way to London to see first-hand how we promote tourism,” stated chief de mission Rhudy Antara from Bali’s association of tourism promotion called Bali Village. He encouraged the government to maintain or even increase its tourism promotion budget so as to ensure that Bali gets enough exposure in the market.

Located in the WTM South Hall, Booth Number AS 700, the Bali delegation exhibits under the Indonesian pavilion, led by the Directorate General for Marketing, Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the Republic of Indonesia. The pavilion covers 244 square metres, presenting destination information, a coffee corner, Spa and Traditional Fabric handicraft demonstration and a mini stage for dance performances. 27 companies will be exhibiting, out of which 22 are from Bali.

Riding the wave of international bestseller “Eat Pray Love” book written by Elizabeth Gilbert which was filmed under the same name, starred by famous Hollywood superstar Julia Roberts, the tourism industry in Bali distributed tour packages featuring culinary delights of Bali, temple visits and romantic hideaways.
